This dramatic monologue told from John Leland's perspective was written by Pastor Randy Hyde of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is an original piece created for the church's Religious Liberty Day celebration on July 4, 2010. It can be re-used when credited.
Listen to Jake and Jesse Baskin perform a rendition of "Christ, our Liberty" at Ravensworth Baptist Church in Annandale, Virginia, during a celebration of religious liberty on June 27, 2010. They changed a few words and added a third original verse, which is included in this performance.
These four monologues were performed by church members in full costume at College Park Baptist Church in Orlando, Fl., during a month-long celebration of Baptist heritage. Written by church member Richard Atkins, they can be used to share a historical perspective on Baptist foundations. The Roger Williams monologue focuses on his work for religious freedom.
If you have a Religious Liberty Day service, you can also give members of your congregation a chance to sign up to receive Report from the Capital and BJC e-mail updates. Just print out copies of this sheet and let people sign up if they are interested. Then, mail the sign-up sheets to the BJC at the address provided on the document.
