Whether government display of a sacred text is subject to a presumption of unconstitutionality, rebuttable only by objective evidence, visible at the site of the display, that clearly negates the appearance that the government endorses what it displays.

The BJC joined this friend of the court brief in the case of Sossamon v. Texas, which will be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court during its 2010-2011 term. The brief says prisoners have a right to the free exercise of religion and may seek damages against the state under federal law when their rights are violated.
The day the Faith-based Advisory Council presented its recommendations for reform to members of President Obama's administration (March 9, 2010), the BJC and a coalition of religious and civil liberties groups sent this letter to the president. It asks him to take action to prevent government money from funding religion and religious discrimination. A similar letter was sent on February 4, 2010.
