The Pastor's Pledge...Close, but No Cigar
American Family Association head Donald Wildmon is trying to get in on all the pulpit campaigning talk these days. He urging pastors to sign a pledge regarding the lead up to November elections. Granted, he is not asking them to deliver direct endorsements (who would be reckless enough to do that?), but let's review his appeal to ministers.
He wants pastors to pledge to: "Encourage my members to register to vote" (sounds good), "Encourage my members to study the issues" (nothing wrong with that), "Encourage my members to vote" (hey, this is sounding like a good idea), and adds: "If the liberals win, then our foundation will no longer be based on the traditional Judeo-Christian morality" (D'oh!). Oh well...
