Former senator and Episcopal priest John Danforth will pen a book on religion and politics, a publisher has announced.

Danforth's "Faith and Politics," to be published in fall 2006, "will explore the widening rift between left and right, conservative and liberal, believer and nonbeliever," Viking said Monday in a press release.

Danforth, a former ambassador to the United Nations, said last month that he believes the political influence of evangelical Christians is hurting the Republican Party and dividing the country.
